Factory Farms: Not In Your Backyard? You May Be Surprised

Factory farms have been proliferating across the United States at an alarming rate, inevitably destroying lives and the communities in which they are built. Rural communities and small family farmers have been fighting lonely, uphill battles against corporations who take advantage of lax zoning and environmental laws. But it's not only rural communities and local ecosystems that pay the price for the world's exponentially growing demand for meat and dairy. Everyone pays for the health, environmental, and economic costs of factory farms.

Do you think there might be a factory farm near you? Food & Water Watch has created a first-ever interactive national map of industrialized livestock operations. Check out the map at www.factoryfarmmap.org. The map shows how many factory farms are in your state and county. Go and investigate and then come back here to learn how to fight factory farms in your community. Or visit Food & Water Watch's website for more information.
