Starting a project
Date: August 31, 7:53am
Hello, I am involved with some volunteer work in Tanzania related to education. One of the problems is safe drinking water. I am looking forward to seeing your ideas. I have a question. I have some ideas specific to my area for small projects to improve this problem and others. Does anyone know of some forms or a related tool available for free to help me detail my project in an organized way so that I can present it to others and keep track of progress. Right now my ideas are notes on paper and very unorganized.

Thanks, Kevin

Hi Kevin,

If I were you I'd google project management, checklist, proposal, etc. and see what's available for free online. A couple of examples:

http://www.projectkickstart.com/downloads/project-planning-checklist.cfm
http://www.projectconnections.com/knowhow/templates/new-project-proposal.html
http://www.klariti.com/templates/Request-For-Proposal-RFP-Template.shtml

These might be more complicated than what you will need, but should give you a start.

Good luck.

John

Let me assist you in resolving the issues that you are faced with...

Hello Kevin,

My name is Von'Victor.

If you have a Google Email account (Gmail) they have a tool on the main page if you click on: Business Solutions which is located under the search box on the main Google page. Next under the column named "Increase your productivity" go down that list and choose "Google Apps - Communicate and collaborate Email, calendar and collaboration tools that your employees can access from any computer." and select "Collaboration". READ through these couple of pages. This is perfect for managing a Project and sharing information. BUT it cost $50. but you will have the capability of SharePoint and will not have to worry about managing the Technical Side of it.

Next you have OpenOffice.org which is like the Microsoft Office Suite, it has all the applications (Execl, Word, PwoerPoint, Access, etc..) that Microsoft Office has however it is 100% FREE and you can Download it online. Just Google: OpenOffice.org or go to: http://openoffice.org-suite.com/2/index.asp?aff=101&camp=gg_oo_us&se=google

Next, if you have Gmail (which is Free to get and doesn't take long to set up) then you can use the clander function within it to assit you in managing your project. You can also share this calender with others for FREE, which is excellent for coordinating a project and the meetings that you will have.

As far as the water is concerned there are many ways but I have to think anout the skill level there when it comes to engineering. There are cheap and free ways to produce energy and boil water. Moreover you can get water tablets from the PeaceCorps and or the UN. You would have to write them and or have a contact here, like me.

Water is a PRECIOUS resource which at the moment is taken for granted by many people.

I am an independent videographer working in the Greater Metro Washington Region. Among my 'percolating' activities are some short PSAs on this topic, for broadcast over cable access, then eventual upload to the web. Please contact me if you would like to talk about water and take part in a PSA. The number of public service announcements (PSAs) that I make and the character they take is largely determined by what people on the street say on camera. So, please contact me today about this issue-

Let's get the message out: Clean water is among those very urgent sustainability issues facing our planet - TODAY!
