Massive CAFO threatens Tulare County, California
Date: September 3, 7:36pm
Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park is being threatened by a proposed 12,000-cow dairy operation to be situated near the historic, predominantly African-American community. On March 20, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors approved the permit to allow Sam Etchegaray to construct his mega CAFO.

Key Players:
Sam Etchegaray, Visalia dairy businessman
David Albers, Etchegaray's attorney
The Trust for Public Land, a land conservation group, is opposing the CAFO.

Check out the link to read an interesting comment from one of the readers. Excerpt below:
"The average person may not be able to see how a nearby dairy is symbolically crapping on a place that is treasured by some as a symbol of the American dream of self-sufficiency and determination for all regardless of race, against the odds of poverty and bigotry. These factors are unfortunately still rampant (if more cleverly concealed) here in our narrow little backwater, along with blindness to white arrogance and privilege. So, no wonder the TC Supervisors would favor the profit of the rich few over the potential inspiration and resulting empowerment of the disadvantaged many. They represent the interests of only their own."
