Distinguishing Social Entrepreneurs
Date: September 12, 4:28pm
Hi,

Global X (socialedge.com) calls Social Entrepreneurs (SE) "pioneers of innovation that benefit humanity." I created this list with the hope it would function as a catalyst for people in and around NYC pursuing or wishing to pursue entrepreneurial ventures that tackle some of the world's problems.

Increasingly there are related resources on the Web like Ashoka (www.ashoka.org), Social Edge (www.socialedge.org), and Acumen Fund (www.acumenfund.org). But the impetus, drive, and energy begin with individuals who proceed with courage to support their compassionate insights.

The world is like a beating heart, expanding and contracting in joy and sorrow. What will bring true happiness? What will decrease sorrow? This is the goal that distinguishes Social Entrepreneurs.

Let's talk. Let's get together somewhere in NYC.

In kindness,
George Fowler

Hi,

I appreciate the point of the group, and understand the need to breathe life into such a project, to nurture it and to have it be useful to the masses. I'm interested in collaborating on such project, but economics, fear and loathing, and getting issues like patent protections secure and applicable have created a mountain that I need to start climbing eventually... sooner rather than later. Not sure if I'm making sense, but I can elaborate in later posting, if someone can show me how to proceed with those protections in place. This is, in a sense, a distinguishing venture that I have to give birth to.

It sounds like you have a specific idea. Perhaps you should start a separate thread so your exploration doesn't get lost under this topic.

Bill Gates Calls for 'Creative Capitalism' :
In a speech at the World Economic Forum, Bill Gates talked about his vision for using technological innovation to help reduce inequity. He asked governments, businesses, and nonprofits to create new market incentives—an approach he calls "creative capitalism"—that will bring the benefits of science and technology to everyone.
