Charity Lobbying in the
Public Interest (CLPI) has launched a new website,

website has information on lobbying and advocacy including strategies
and resources. Particularly timely is clear information about do's and don'ts for public charities (501(c)(3)s) during elections -- see

Action Without Borders, the producers of the Idealist website (http://www.idealist.org) is organizing Nonprofit Careeer Fairs in 16 cities between September 23 (Middletown, CT) and March 27, 2003 (Baltimore). Independent Sector released the results of its periodic survey of Americans' attitudes toward nonprofits on August 14, 2002. A summary of report (with a link to the complete 5 page PDF text) can be viewed at http://www.independentsector.org/media/trustPR.html. The Brookings Institution issued a report drawing different, and much less optimistic, conclusions from similar data about a month later; see http://www.brook.edu/comm/news/20020909charitable.htm.
Anyone who produces a simple on-line newsletter will have fun with the formatting tool at http://www.ossweb.com/ez-ezine-template.html. Using this service with a list of stakeholders' email addresses will make it easy to stay in touch with the people who care about a nonprofit's work.

This service of the New School of Social Research in New York City is a carefully researched set of categorized links to high-quality information for and about nonprofits. It's a source of pride that links to the Internet Nonprofit Center are included.
Property-tax exemption can be an important benefit to nonprofit organizations that own buildings and land. Evelyn Brody and her co-authors in "Property-Tax Exemption for Nonprofits: Mapping the Battlefield" (Urban Institute Press, 2002) explore its history, economics and politics. Putnam Barber, editor of the Internet Nonprofit Center, prepared some comments on the book which can be read at http://www.tess.org/ON/020729ON.htm.
The Nonprofit FAQ contains scores of items covering a multitude of topics related to understanding and leading nonprofit organizations. We regularly receive welcome notes of thanks from people who have found the FAQ useful. One of the items is mentioned more often, by far, than any other in these notes: http://www.nonprofits.org/npofaq/03/21.html - "What should your mission statement say." If you're curious about the topic, it's likely that you'll find that item a good read.
Another frequently cited page of the Nonprofit FAQ is our long list -- in alphabetical order -- of online services of various sorts that are designed to help nonprofits with fundraising. The list is a useful starting point for research, and it's interesting to track (using the edit log) the amount of churning in this field that comes to our attention. But there's no question that it's a long list and that it has a very mixed bag of facilities and services on it. Marc Lee, of Affinity Resources (a consultancy) maintains something more organized that focuses just on what he calls "donation engines" (online services that allow processing of donations made using, usually, a credit card).
