Description:

Protect a GMO-Free Europe

A series of crucial decisions will soon be taken in Brussels regarding the planting of genetically engineered crops in Europe.

In all the cases only a qualified majority (255 out of 345 votes) of the 27 member states can overrule the EU-Commission’s proposals. This undemocratic so called comitology procedure allows for EU-wide approvals of GMOs and the forced cultivation of GMOs against the will of national governments and even against the vote of a majority of member states.

We believe that the governments and their ministers should be aware that their citizens are watching closely how they vote in Europe. We have drafted a letter to the ministers in charge calling upon them to vote against the forced waiving of the national bans on GMO planting in Hungary, Austria, France and Greece and against the approval of new GMO crops for cultivation in Europe.
