Description:
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is a progressive, non-profit, 501(c)(3), legal watchdog group dedicated to ensuring integrity in public officials through creative use of the legal system. We employ the law as a tool not only to force officials to behave ethically, but also to bring unethical conduct to the public’s attention. Among the tools we use to accomplish this goal are litigation, Freedom of Information Act requests, ethics complaints, Internal Revenue Service complaints, and Federal Election Commission complaints.
CREW is looking for undergraduate students or recent graduates to serve as interns for the spring of 2010. Our interns will assist with a variety of tasks: research, including compiling complaints and performing research on ethical issues in government; operations, including maintaining website content and some administrative tasks; and communications, including working with members of the press, monitoring press coverage, and building press lists. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, enthusiastic, resourceful, detail-oriented, and interested in legal or ethical issues. Prior political or office experience is not required, but helpful. Internships are unpaid, but by prior arrangement, academic credit can be earned. Hours are negotiable; however, during the academic year, at least a 10-hour per week commitment is expected. During the summer, candidates able to work full-time will receive preference.
Application instructions:
This position is based in Washington, D.C. Interested candidates should e-mail a resume, cover letter explaining why you want to work at CREW, and a list of days and hours you are available to the Intern Coordinator at zdagneau@citizensforethics.org with the subject line "Undergraduate Internship Application."
