Description:
Qualifications: Graduate student or experienced undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors); excellent analytic, writing and oral communication skills necessary; interest in public interest advocacy work. ??
Organization description: Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Illinois is a children's advocacy organizations of over 300 concerned law enforcement leaders—police chiefs, sheriffs and state’s attorneys—as well as crime survivors working together to advocate at the state and federal levels for increased resources for prevention programs for at-risk children and youth. The Illinois organization is one of several state chapters of a national organization.
Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Illinois is seeking an intern to work with staff to
• Assist with planning for media events, research locations and help drive turnout by law enforcement leaders and the press
• Assist with research, writing and layout of documents communicating Fight Crime: Invest in Kids’ policy positions to state policy makers and the media
• Interview law enforcement leaders and create short profiles for website.
• Research Illinois programs/data to make the best case for how prevention programs – parent coaching for young moms, access to pre-k education, after school activities, and interventions designed to turn troubled kids around– can reduce crime.
Application instructions:
We hire interns year round. Organizing and political or issue advocacy experience is preferred but not required. Interns will see first-hand how to implement an effective issue advocacy campaign at the state level. While this internship is unpaid, interns can expect a well-rounded experience in all parts of issue advocacy, including direct advocacy with policy makers, media outreach, and membership mobilization. Interns interested in working part time will be considered, but must be willing to work a minimum of two days a week.
