Description:

Did politics excite you in 2008? Well, getting pro-environment candidates elected is only the starting point—now we have to hold them accountable and make sure they vote to protect our air, land and water just like they promised during the campaign. If you want to help us with that challenge, join our efforts as an intern!

Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) is a nonpartisan, non-profit 501c(4) organization, that works to protect New Mexico’s natural environment and our cherished way of life. We do this by:
• Educating legislators and the public on critical conservation issues;
• Lobbying on behalf of pro-conservation legislation;
• Holding legislators accountable for decisions that impact the environment; and
• Endorsing and electing pro-conservation candidates to public office.

At CVNM, you have the opportunity to gain important skills in politics and using the political process to protect the environment. In addition, you’ll participate in our statewide-recognized innovative strategies that seek to mobilize citizens and decision makers to better protect our environment. We seek motivated interns who can help us with communications/ social media, political analysis, environmental research, lobbying assistance, campaign assistance, fundraising research, and marketing.

For all of our internships, we look for individuals with good writing and speaking skills. We also consider your ability to work with minimal supervision, since we believe that an internship experience should foster an independent work ethic and responsibility. Given CVNM’s mission, we expect applicants to share our commitment to protect New Mexico’s air, land, water, wildlife and communities. Please note that our internships are not paid positions as much as we would like them to be.

Application instructions:

CVNM’s internships are generally flexible regarding start and end dates, though some projects are seasonal. In addition, our positions are based out of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

For all internships, complete and return the information outlined below to Jessica Haynie, Conservation Voters New Mexico’s Development Director, at jessica@cvnm.org.

• A cover letter to elaborate on your interests, experience, availability, and goals
• A resume
• A writing sample (a school paper, excerpt, or similar work)
