Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) helps people, particularly those with barriers to employment, acquire the skills and resources to find and keep meaningful employment and progress toward the goal of self-sufficiency. In this time of economic crisis, JVS has developed a new strategic plan, designed to move 7500 individuals toward self-sufficiency over the next three years, through building new skills, attaining their educational goals and finding new jobs. JVS offers a comprehensive array of programs; through sector based training and employment strategies, close employer engagement, collaborative partnerships and targeted programs for youth with disabilities, displaced workers, and the transgender community JVS has become a nationally recognized innovator in workforce development. JVS is a non-sectarian, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1973, with a current operating budget of $6.5 million. JVS plays a leadership role in collaborative employment and training efforts throughout San Francisco and in workforce policy development and advocacy at local, state and federal levels.
The Technology Access Center (TAC) is a community computer facility and resource library available to anyone looking to improve their job-related computer skills and search for a job. The TAC Intern(s) will empower clients to achieve their career goals by helping them grow confident and self-sufficient with computers.
Intern responsibilities :
• Work one-on-one with clients to help them with their online job search and computer skill building
• Work with Client Services Coordinator and other JVS staff to track client progress in the TAC
• Work with the Client Services Coordinator to make TAC resources more user-friendly
• Maintain an effective working and learning environment for clients
• Work closely with TAC Volunteers to make sure assistance is always available to clients
Qualifications:
• Patience and an open mind
• Creative problem solving skills
• Great communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven excellence in customer service
• Strong computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office 2007, Internet Explorer, and popular internet email service providers
• Experience with data entry is appreciated
• Tutoring or teaching experience is a plus
• Paid or volunteer experience in an nonprofit environment preferred
Commitment:
The TAC intern will work from 9:00am to 5:00pm 2 to 5 days per week.
