Description:

GCI is looking for interns for its newly introduced Public Interest Litigation Programme. Applicants should have good legal background with experience and or interest in public litigation.

The intern will be expected to do the following:

1. Investigating and reporting on policies that are not adequately serving the public interest.

2. Intervening in, or instituting proceedings before, any rulemaking, adjudication or permitting process conducted by a State department, commission, agency or board.

3. Instituting litigation on behalf of a broad public interest . This may include litigation to protect consumers, the indigent, the elderly, senior citizens, or people with disabilities, mental illness, or developmental disabilities.

Application instructions:

We are looking for interns to begin placements from November 2009.

GCI welcomes applications from anyone and from any part of the world. If you are interested in an internship of 3-6 months apply to GCI with the following information:

1. A Letter of Motivation:
- Why you want to intern with GCI
- Which project you wish to join (consult the project guide)
- When you wish to arrive and how long you wish to stay
- What specific skills and experience you will bring to this project.

2. A CV/Resumé:
- Education
- Work history
- Volunteer experience.

Internship Fees
Global Conscience Initiative charges a minimum fee for international internships for better facilitation, coordination, supervision and effectiveness. Internship prices vary depending on the program, length of internship and additional services requested.

Importantly, the internship fees include:
• Development of a custom designed internship to meet your objectives and capabilities
• Internship contract defining the placement terms and conditions
• Assistance with the visa process (international students)
• Preparation and orientation package
• Regular counseling support services for the duration of your internship.
• Performance report supplied by Global Conscience on successful completion of
the program
• Certificate upon successful completion of the internship
• A letter of Recommendation
• Supply of necessary documentation
• Accommodation

Interns shall be responsible for their insurance and visa applications and Global Conscience shall assist with a confirmation or visa letter to facilitate the application process.

Internship fees are paid in advance into our account to enable for logistical and accommodation arrangements

Fee (amounts in FCFA):
4-8 weeks 500,000;
8-12 weeks 650,000;
12+weeks +150,000/month.
