Description:

This position involves working with the local community to assist families to become self-sustainable and/or develop businesses to be more successful. Volunteers will engage with local groups and key community members and develop links with other agencies and NGOs. Part of this role can also involve becoming involved in local education programs (such as HIV awareness) Volunteers will be required to be self-motivated and pro-active for this program.

Female volunteers will have the opportunity to work specifically with local women’s groups and young women to develop business initiatives, skills training and education programs.

REQUIRED SKILLS: understanding of basic business principles, creativity, understanding and patience. Training in business would be an advantage.

LOCATION OF THE PROGRAM
The program is located at Sofia Yatta, eastern of Kenya, 90 kilometers from Nairobi

DURATION OF THE PROGRAM
The duration depends on the volunteer’s availability and travel arrangements. We recommend that volunteers stay 2 - 3 months to fully experience Kenyan life and to have an impact upon the community however volunteers are welcome for any period. For volunteers wanting to travel, we are able to assist with providing information.

PROGRAM FEE
US$80 per week payable prior or at the start of the placement.

FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
Food & accommodation are provided as part of the program.

AIR TICKET AND TRAVEL COSTS
Volunteers cater for their own air tickets. our staff will meet you at the airport upon arrival.

PERSONAL EXPENSES
internet, telephone, district touring, gifts, luxuries etc are available at a little fee.
