Description:
Description:
Students will experience a unique placement with the National Adoption Center (NAC). NAC offers a mission-driven environment with a down-to-earth and highly creative work culture. NAC expands adoption opportunities for children living in foster care throughout the United States, and is a resource to families and to agencies who seek the permanency of caring homes for children. The creative work of NAC includes: public awareness and recruitment through varied media sources, information and referral for prospective adoptive families, matching events through the local affiliate of the agency (Adoption Center of Delaware Valley), support for children and families through online publications, and community-specific recruitment initiatives (LGBT, African-American, single parents).
Educational Opportunities:
Students will contribute to a great variety of projects that will grant access to all aspects of a non-profit organization: research; program planning; evaluation; development; public relations with TV, radio, and print media; financial management; advocacy; and policy. Opportunities include case management contact with prospective adoptive families and child welfare social workers. Exciting upcoming projects may include: an online adoption education program (web development, curriculum development, web marketing, and more), collaboration with Human Rights Campaign (HRC) to expand adoption opportunities, and research and writing for an adoption website for children. Project support will take place through cohesive work with various members of 12-15 person staff and external partners. Opportunity exists to participate in board meetings, staff meetings, and special events (Adoption Fairs, Annual Gala, Match Parties). The experience in this placement will easily transfer to any non-profit environment.
