The Placement
As a Public Education Intern you will be part of a team professionals at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) working to foster and promote human rights in Ghana. You will assist the PE staff with outreach and education programmes in the Cape Coast or Takoradi area, including helping to create and give human rights talks, appearing on local radio and television stations and attending conferences on behalf of the Commission. You will also sit in on mediation sessions and may be required to accompany CHRAJ staff on monitoring and evaluation exercises throughout the region.

This is a great opportunity to get international experience with an African human rights commission in the field, and to work hands on with real human rights issues in Ghana.

Objectives of the placement:
• Assist CHRAJ in its outreach and public education programmes.
• Advocate human rights at a local and national level in Ghana.
• Foster skill transfer between the interns and CHRAJ.
• Foster greater understanding among interns about human rights issues faced in Ghana and in West Africa.
• Help to create partnerships between CHRAJ and local civic groups, NGOs and diplomatic missions.

We are looking for people with a proven interest in human rights, and who want the challenge of working in an African human rights commission. • Organizational skills – project planning, execution and evaluation
• Computer and typing skills (good working knowledge of MS Office)
• Internet research experience
• Self-motivated, and be able to adapt to difficult and challenging working environments
• Fluent in English

The 2 internships are flexible and start on a rolling basis in 2010. We only ask that you can commit to at least a 3 months, but these can last from 6 months to a year.
