Description:

Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (BSCAH) is Brooklyn’s largest food pantry, serving over 10,000 people a month. BSCAH is unique amongst the food pantries in Brooklyn, because it is a "supermarket style" pantry. Our pantry allows customers to select for themselves both fresh fruits and vegetables and nutritious food items from the pantry shelves.

Taking a holistic approach to combating hunger, BSCAH also serves our clients through various social services including job training and education referrals, Food Stamps screenings, cooking classes, summer camps, pre-HIV testing, diabetes and high blood pressure testing, and financial literacy classes. Our goal is not simply to provide people with a satisfactory amount of food but to empower our families- reaching beyond food provision to affect social change.

BSCAH is looking to expand and diversify our funding sources, and is seeking a development intern to assist us in this process. The intern’s duties will include:
- Research funding sources
- Research and draft grant proposals
- Write letters of inquiry and follow-up letters
- Solicit funding from businesses and individuals
- Engage corporate sponsors
- Partnership-building with other community-based organizations
- Assist with special event coordination

Desired Intern Qualifications:
- Creative thinking
- Compelling written communications
- Familiar with non-profit operations
- Able to work independently
- Well-versed in online research, particularly search tools geared toward non-profits

BSCAH is looking for a minimum commitment of three months from its intern. Days and hours are flexible. BSCAH is more than happy to work with the intern to obtain course credit for work performed.
