Description:

Greenpeace, the world’s leading international environmental organization, has a unique internship opportunity for dedicated individuals ready to stop global warming. Scientists say we must act now to stop the worst effects of global warming. We have the technology to solve global warming, but the political will is lacking. We are working with volunteers all over the country to make global warming a prominent issue in their community, and we need passionate, dedicated interns to help us with this effort. Greenpeace interns will get support and training to make sure that Congress pays attention to the people they represent instead of powerful corporate interests.

History
Greenpeace was founded in 1971 by a small group of volunteers standing up to nuclear testing off the Alaskan Coast. These daring few effectively won a total ban on nuclear testing and launched Greenpeace’s legacy of “bearing witness” to environmental abuse. We continue to use non-violent direct action, creative confrontation, and grassroots organizing to build solutions to global warming, toxic pollution, and destruction of our ancient forests and oceans. Today, Greenpeace is the world’s largest environmental organization, with 2.5 million members in 40 countries. Through our global warming campaign, Greenpeace organizers and volunteers have been putting members of Congress in the hot seat and bringing national attention to the issue of global warming.

What is an intern?
Interns are hardworking and dedicated individuals who are helping to lead our efforts to stop global warming in communities across the country. They commit time and energy to our campaign, and in exchange receive one-on-one guidance from staff, trainings, and leadership experience and school credit if applicable.

What you need to be an intern:
-Willingness to learn about our campaign, committed to action to stop global warming
-Desire and ability to take on a wide range of tasks, from making phone calls and writing letters to dealing with the media and volunteers
-8 to 10 hours per week doing campaign work based on the plan that you and Greenpeace staff create. Flexible hours and schedule.

What you’ll get to do:
-Grassroots campaigns are dynamic and multi-faceted. We recruit activists, take our message to the media, run grassroots events, communicate with congressional representatives, and more. You’ll take the lead on one part of our campaign and coordinate other volunteers who share your passion.
-Introduce new volunteers to our activities and help run monthly meetings
-Help Greenpeace get global warming into the public’s attention, and communicate that to congressional representatives

What you’ll get—support and training from the experts:
-Weekly meetings with Greenpeace staff for planning and brainstorming
-Insider tips and updates from Greenpeace
-One-on-one meetings with staff to plan your campaign events
-Advanced skills trainings from Greenpeace staff
-Any materials you need: lawn signs, postcards, sample letters, etc!
