Description:

Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, is looking for a Conference Planning Intern for the month of January 2010. Families USA’s 15th annual conference, Health Action 2010, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC from January 28-30, 2010.

Last year, the conference drew approximately 800 participants from more than 40 states. Previous speakers at our conferences have included Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton; Vice President Al Gore; Senators Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and Tom Daschle; Surgeon General David Satcher; and many others. As health reform continues to progress through Congress, Health Action 2010 promises to be momentous. The conference is a tremendous opportunity for participants to learn more about health care reform legislation, share field strategies, and gear up for the year ahead.

Families USA’s special pre-conference meeting entitled, “Implementation Summit: Building Success in 2010,” will be held at the same location from January 27-28, 2010. The Conference Intern will also provide support for this event.

The Conference Planning Intern will work closely with the Conference Team in:
• Drafting, editing, printing, and copying materials.
• Assembling materials for registration tables, free literature tables, participant packets/folders, and workshops/break-out sessions.
• Finalizing confirmations and logistics for speakers.
• Supporting the Conference Team in completing administrative tasks surrounding set-up and clean-up of pre-conference, all plenary sessions, and workshops.
• Helping to ensure the pre-conference and conference runs smoothly, welcoming participants, and supporting the Conference Team in trouble-shooting as needed.

Interns at Families USA are considered part of the Families USA’s staff and attend weekly staff meetings and internal team meetings to discuss advocacy strategy and new initiatives to ensure health care access and affordability for all Americans.

This internship is paid $8.25 per hour, and interns normally work 40 hours per week. The week before and the week of the pre-conference and conference, the candidate will likely work more than 40 hours per week.
