Democracy Now! is an award-
winning, non-commercial, daily radio/
TV news hour. Pioneering the largest
public media collaboration in the U.S.
and broadcasting on over 800
stations; we are one of the fastest
growing programs in public
broadcasting.

We are looking for interns for the
following position for winter/spring 2010.

General information:
We require a minimum of two months
commitment, for 15-20 hours per
week. Positions are based in our
downtown Manhattan office.
Internships are unpaid, but academic
credit can be arranged. A lunch
stipend is provided.

Spanish Radio Stations

Position Overview:
Background:
Democracy Now! en espanol began airing headline news in May 2005, and it can now be heard on more than 250 radio and TV stations throughout the Americas and the world.

Internship Job Description:
At Democracy Now! en espanol our goal is to allow community radio stations to come to know us and include our daily news services in their programming. By participating in this internship program, candidates would be helping the inhabitants of the Spanish-speaking world find an independent alternative by which to inform themselves, as well as to experience the internet as an informative tool. In recent years, the internship program with Democracy Now! en espanol has attracted very talented candidates. We currently have openings for interns to work in the New York City office for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Duties:
• Direct communication with radio stations, political and social activists or any person interested in Democracy Now! via e-mail, phone, or in person.
• Develop and establish social marketing strategies with local radio stations to provide them with materials and the ability to distribute DN!es’ content.
• Work with local communities to introduce the internet as a new alternative for gathering information.
• Update country profiles with current contact information for stations and news about country’s context as it affects community radios
• Design visual material for the outreach program

Qualifications:
The candidates will be required to be aware of the local socio-economic and cultural environments of the Spanish-speaking communities that we are trying to reach.
