winning, non-commercial, daily radio/
TV news hour. Pioneering the largest

We are looking for an intern for the
following position for winter/spring 2010.

General information:
We require a minimum of two months commitment, for 15-20 hours per week. Positions are based in our downtown Manhattan office. Internships are unpaid, but academic credit can be arranged. A lunch stipend is provided.

Position Title: Development Intern

Position Overview

Internship Job Description:
The Development Intern will help Democracy Now! fulfill it marketing and development goals. This internship is in a key area of non-profit administration and will allow the intern to gain insight into the marketing and fundraising process of one of the fastest-growing radio/television programs in the nation. This internship will allow the intern to become immersed in various aspects of the development process, including targeted prospect research, award solicitation,proposal development and implementation, and event planning. The educational goals for the prospective intern include teaching the basics of grant writing and reporting, prospect research and event planning. The intern will be supervised by experienced fundraising professionals who will routinely evaluate his or her work and provide feedback for development. We require a minimum of two months’ commitment, for 15-20 hours per week. Internships are unpaid, but academic credit can be arranged. A lunch stipend is provided.

Duties:

• Assist with audience, foundation and individual prospect research
• Assist in the development and maintenance of grant and journalism award database
• Assist in the development of targeted marketing lists
• Assist in research and development of membership program
• Assist with foundation and individual grant solicitation and stewardship process, writing solicitations and proposals
• Assist in the development and writing of donor correspondence, electronic and print materials, direct mail solicitations and annual report
• Assist in compiling and writing midterm and final event and grant reports

Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Well-organized
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software and online research required
