MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health invites applications for the position of Major Gifts Officer.

Established in 1996, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to elevate the priority of children’s health and increase the quality and accessibility of children’s health care through leadership and direct investment. The Foundation fundraises for research, training, and patient care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and for pediatric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The Foundation also serves as a source of public information about the state of children’s health and pursues changes in the system of pediatric health care. Position Summary

The Major Gifts Officer is one of a small team of field fundraisers, reporting to the Senior Vice President and Campaign Director, responsible for securing large outright or planned gifts from individuals. Major gifts are defined as commitments of $100,000 or more. Such gifts may be sought for capital, endowment, or expendable purposes. Major gifts will be solicited on behalf of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford University School of Medicine for various pediatric patient care, research, and training programs.

In the process, the Major Gifts Officer will be expected to work cooperatively and strategically with development colleagues and members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. Specifically, the Major Gifts Officer must interact effectively with other members of the large gifts team, including Prospect Researchers and the Donor Relations staff. The Major Gifts Officer will also have to become an expert representative of the various entities and activities for which major gifts are being sought.

Additional Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a college graduate and will have three years or more of proven and productive experience soliciting gifts from individuals at this level. He or she will be knowledgeable about where to find appropriate information that confirms a prospect's capacity and interest, and will also demonstrate great interpersonal skill at initiating and establishing positive relationships that convert prospects into donors. Skill at developing complex yet effective strategies will be required. In that regard, the successful candidate will be honest, articulate, and persuasive. It will be important to demonstrate a genuine personal interest in children and their health. The successful candidate will always put the donor's interests first and will take the long-term approach to developing relationships on the Foundation's behalf. He or she will further demonstrate an understanding of stewardship practices. Finally, the successful candidate will be a skilled writer, proving so with samples of previous written work.

Creativity, high energy, and strong self-motivation are other qualities that will be sought.
