Description:
BINATIONAL PROJECT on FAMILY VIOLENCE COORDINATOR- The Binational Project on Family Violence Coordinator will work closely with the Project Attorney and will be responsible for a wide array of activities related to the project.
Responsibilities: establish relationships with lawyers and other professional communities on both sides of the border to develop support for the project; support and coordinate the involvement and efforts of project partners, including shelter organizations, community leaders, and funding resources; generate financial support for legal services delivery systems on both sides of the border through fund raising and grant writing; organize conferences for project participants; initiate and/or support the establishment of shelter organizations and legal services programs for victims of violence in communities in Mexico near the Texas/Mexico border; work with TRLA’s Bi-National Project staff to coordinate efforts to represent domestic violence victims whose cases are adversely impacted by cross-border transactions, such as the kidnapping of children and removing them from the jurisdiction of Texas courts, or the enforcement of Texas court orders in Mexican courts; assist in the creation of a panel of Mexican attorneys willing to provide pro bono representation for Texas clients in Mexican courts; assist in conducting case-related investigations; become familiar with the legal remedies available to battered women and assist Project Attorneys in pursuing those remedies on behalf of Project clients.
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications:
College degree in a relevant field; good writing and oral communication skills: fluent in Spanish and English; good interpersonal skills; experience in working with victims of domestic violence or knowledge of family violence issues preferred; Computer skills, e.g., spreadsheets, PowerPoint; some experience in resource development and grant writing preferred; self-starter with ability to work independently.
