Position Objective:

Within the context of a welfare-to-work continuum, WeCARE provides a full range of social and medical evaluation, case management, job readiness, job placement and retention services to individuals with disabilities, with a focus on developing customized goals based on individual strengths and limitations and moving individuals toward economic independence.

Supervises the daily operation of the WeCARE Vocational Instruction unit, comprising job readiness and skills training for welfare-to-work participants. Ensures that curriculum and classroom activity adhere to contractual goals and educational standards and regulations. Will assume classroom instructional responsibilities as needed. Helps to develop and train instructors through professional development activities.

Essential Functions:

• Provides leadership in the day-to-day operations of job readiness instruction. Creates/oversees schedule of daily job duties, arranges backup program coverage, and serves as backup to staff in their absence.
• Supervises on-site job readiness and computer instructors to ensure that instructional activities are conducted according to WeCARE regulations and standards.
• Reviews and revises vocational curriculum to ensure that it is in compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements and industry trends.
• Ensures that classroom activities reflect participants’ needs, job readiness and skills level.
• Assists Assistant Director in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of the physical facilities.
• Serves as liaison with case management and job development staff.
• Monitors attendance, statistics, and required participation for all students.
• In collaboration with Assistant Director, ensures continual class coverage and provides backup for classroom instruction.
• Responsible for classroom instructional library and audio-visual materials as well as software and computer-based instructional curricula.
• In collaboration with Assistant Director, oversees monthly student progress reporting among instructors. Oversees participant progress toward goal of employment.
• Attends relevant meetings, staff development sessions and training as needed.
• Interviews and trains staff; conducts performance reviews and evaluation; provides verbal and written feedback; participates in disciplinary actions where appropriate.
• Works to ensure that all persons on public assistance with physical or psychiatric disabilities have equal opportunity to transition from welfare to work and that all program services accommodate and reflect participants’ individual and performance needs.
• Manages all program operations in accordance with HRA and industry regulations, agency policies, and HIPAA guidelines.
• Prepares statistical reports and analyses.
• Assists in preparation for program audits, surveys and other reviews.
• Assists with special projects, daily staff assignments or reassignments and program planning.
• Address participants’ issues as necessary.
• Maintains and executes documentation and workflow through computer-based programs and technology that draws on basic software/computer skill set.
• May be assigned other tasks and duties reasonably related to their job responsibilities

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. License by New York State Education Department preferred.

Skills and/or Experience Required:

• Minimum two (2) years teaching experience.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with the welfare-to-work population preferred.
• Knowledge of job readiness trends.
• Excellent oral, written and communication skills; strong platform abilities.
• Basic computer software literacy and computer usage experience.
