Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Olympus Academy, the Advocate Counselor acts in the capacity of a case manager, responsible for a caseload of approximately 30-40 students. the Advocate's role is to gain a rapport and establish a supportive relationship with each student. The Advocate is responsible for assisting the students to assess their current skills and knowledge; short term and long term goals and then assisting them to strategize a plan to achieve those goals. The Advocate must also be able to identify issues that are obstacles to the student achieving success and provide assistance in resolving or minimizing impact of those issues.
Additional Qualifications:
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in
Education, Human Services or related
field with at least two (2) years
experience working with at-risk youth.
Candidates should also have at least
one (1) year training or group work
experience. The incumbent should
bring to the position excellent written
and oral communications skills, good
organizational skills and computer
literate. Candidate must be
fingerprinted by NYC Department of
Education.
