Description:
Who we are.
Success Charter Network, Inc., a charter school management organization (CMO) that manages the highly successful and academically rigorous network of charter schools known as the Harlem Success Academies, is actively seeking a Human Resources Associate to support talent recruitment and development in our fast-paced, quickly growing Human Resources division. Success Charter Network (SCN) opened its first school, Harlem Success Academy, in August 2006. Capitalizing on the awesome gains it made with students in its first school, SCN expanded by adding 3 more schools to its network in Summer 2008, all modeled after its flagship. Success Charter Network will continue the rapid launch of 3 to 4 schools each year until it is actively managing 30 to 40 excellent, public elementary schools all over low-income New York City neighborhoods. All Success Academies are distinguished by a high-expectations culture and an obsession with college graduation. Our mission is to prevent the achievement gap between low-income children and their more affluent counterparts by bringing high-quality schools to high-need neighborhoods that need them.
About our schools.
Harlem Success Academies invest in children early. From the moment our Kindergartners walk through our doors and enter our lively classrooms, they become scholars on the road to college graduation. Every moment in school is seized as an opportunity for learning: scholars are encouraged to follow the wise words of Dr. Seuss and "Go Beyond Z" in all aspects of their lives, and faculty is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to ensure academic success. In addition to a rigorous literacy and math program, our schools offer discovery-based science 5 days per week, geography, chess, visual arts, soccer, karate, and dance. Our values - Agency, Curiosity, Try & Try, Integrity, Others, and No shortcuts - are emphasized for our scholars and demonstrated by our faculty in everything that we do.
In this newly designed role, our HR Associate would:
* Help design and facilitate professional development activities for all staff members that meet the needs of all network departments
* Conduct bi-annual "check-ins" with instructional faculty at all schools to evaluate job satisfaction and gather insight into areas for improvement
* Organize and communicate findings from these check-ins to all relevant parties while protecting the confidentiality and sensitivity of information relayed
* Proactively drive retention by coming up with innovative ways to professionally develop staff members and cultivate the "joy factor"
* Assist with the recruitment and selection of Network and School employees
* Plan and organize organization-wide events that focus on team building while reinforcing professional and cultural norms
* Work with the COO to determine professional norms and organizational values; design internal and external marketing materials around those norms and values
* Onboard new staff members by presenting an orientation workshop that sets the tone of the organization and establishes professional expectations
* Proactively identify organization-wide challenges and design creative ways to correct them
* Embody and uphold our professional values every day; serve as a professional role model for new staff
Our ideal staff member has a demonstrated interest in professional learning and a track-record of producing results in a fast-paced, bottom-line driven environment. He or she is an excellent presenter with superb analytical and communication skills. As this job is new, flexibility and professional ownership is a must. Experience working in an entrepreneurial start-up and a sense of humor are huge pluses.
Success Charter Network, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and actively encourages applications from people with diverse backgrounds.
