Description:
The Ocean Energy Council [501 (c) (3)] seeks an experienced Grant Writer to write, edit and proofread proposals, reports, and contract documents for foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities.
The Grant Writer will research public and private grant agencies to identify new sources of funding, work closely with administrative staff to develop proposals and prepare reports, as well as monitor reporting and proposal deadlines.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Your main objectives will include learning the process of researching, identifying and writing grants on behalf of the OEC in order to help fund the programs and activities we offer in the United States and abroad.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Familiarizing yourself with OEC’s programs and projects.
•The individual is responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to secure major grant funding from corporations, foundations and federal, state and local governments in support of OEC, its programs, resources and campaigns.
• The grant writer is responsible for submitting Letters of Intents, proposals and online applications on behalf of the association in a timely and consistent manner.
• Researching and identifying foundations and grant providers based inside of and outside of the US that would be relevant to OEC’s mission and vision.
• Selecting appropriate grant schemes and applications.
• Working with members of OEC’s Executive Team in application writing, budget creation and submission.
• Create a system for organizing and maintaining grant data and tracking contacts with foundations and other funding sources that have been looked into and/or applied for.
Additional Qualifications:
Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience. Grant writing experience is required preferably with a proven track record of raising money from corporations, foundations and government sources. Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors is a plus. Previous experience as a grant writer for a non-profit organization is highly desirable. Strong written communication skills and the ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals is mandatory. This position requires an outgoing and poised individual that will work with Ocean Energy Council executive staff, board members and officers, as well as high-level corporate and foundation executives. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are essential. Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fund raising prospect research is essential. Must possess the ability to work independently, effectively manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines, and be a strong contributor in a team environment.
