General Description

The National League of Cities is seeking an experienced professional to be responsible for serving as part of NLC Member Service Center Team; we are looking for an individual who is creative and an out-of-the-box thinker to assist us with the development and tracking of all recruitment, retention, and program activities. Maintains data in membership database and performs analysis in order to support strategic marketing efforts. Provides support to NLC awards and recognition programs and to various NLC member groups. Reports to Director, Member Relations.

Examples of Work
Serves on NLC Member Service Center Team providing excellent customer service to NLC member city officials in all aspects of work.

Responds to member inquiries and requests via phone, email, and mail, in a prompt and informed manner; tracks inquiries and requests via member database.

Performs outreach to NLC member city officials and staff to promote NLC products and services and to gather basic information about cities and city officials to support NLC marketing efforts.

Works with the Member Relations Team to establish programs and initiatives to retain members, identifying needs of existing members and works with the association to develop services to assist members.
Assists with the development of retention and recruitment campaigns, maintaining data in membership database and performing analylsis in support of strategic marketing efforts.

Manages a portfolio of NLC member cities by tracking participation of member city officials and staff in NLC activities, monitoring city conditions and activities, and maintaining regular communication with key city officials and staff; monitors anniversary billing cycles and performs collection efforts as needed.

Performs general data entry in membership database making updates and changes as necessary; runs reports and performs analysis of member database information in order to support strategic marketing efforts.

Serves as NLC representative promoting membership at events throughout the year including NLC conferences and meetings and state league meetings; travels to member cities as needed to promote NLC membership.

Supports NLC’s various awards programs and recognition efforts including tracking awards from state leagues and other organizations; drafting correspondence, articles and award program descriptions; and maintaining databases.

Travel required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, marketing or related field; minimum two (2) years experience required, preferably in the association or non-profit arena; computer training and experience with association management software package preferred; or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of the association sector and importance of member involvement; possess excellent writing skills to assist with creating content for brochures, promotional pieces and on-line messaging. Provide internal and external customer service support; ability to work independently; strong oral and interpersonal communications skills; ability to interact effectively with members, the public, and NLC staff at all levels; ability to work in a team environment within and across departments.

This position is ideal for a self-starter, who can effectively multi-task, work independantly and will thrive in a fast paced environment.
