Description:
National CAPACD seeks an experienced, energetic individual to implement our development, communications and events processes. The Development & Communications Manager is responsible for managing relationships with individual, corporate and foundation donors; strengthening our communications and public relations efforts; and overseeing all programmatic-related events hosted by the organization.
The Development & Communications Manager will be an active team member in all organizational activities including regional meetings, the annual convention and board meetings. Candidate should have 5 - 7 years experience in fundraising and/or communications and possess excellent writing skills. This position will report to the Deputy Director.
Specific responsibilities include:
1) Development
a. Manage foundation and corporate fundraising processes in collaboration with Deputy Director, including writing and preparing grant proposals/reports and maintaining grants tracking processes.
b. Coordinate fundraising efforts for annual convention with consultant, board of directors and Executive Director.
c. Organize individual fundraising outreach, including updating and expanding the database, processing contributions, responding to information requests and overseeing mailings.
d. Identify and conduct regular research on funding opportunities and donor prospects.
e. Assist in cultivating relationships with the other national and local intermediaries, community development agencies, federal agencies, foundations and corporations and potential donors.
f. Participating in development strategy meetings, sharing new and exciting ways to build the donor base, increase giving and create donor loyalty.
2) Communications
a. Manage organizational, program and event materials development, including brochures, annual reports, fact sheets, etc.
b. Maintain and enhance regular communications with members, board and other stakeholders, including: writing and editing monthly e-newsletters, preparing news releases, and updating website content.
c. Coordinate media relations, including strengthening press lists, developing editorials and op-eds and organizing briefings.
d. Provide creative writing and other technical assistance to staff and members, including: copyediting, writing, basic photo editing, creating invitations, etc.
3) Events
a. Manage and coordinate logistics for events and trainings for members as needed, including the annual convention.
b. Strengthen member participation in National CAPACD programs by assisting in research to understand member strengths, needs and opportunities and enhancing relationships with member organizations.
Additional Qualifications:
1) Required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in communications, fundraising, non-profit management, public policy or related field; Minimum of five years experience in communications, fundraising and program management; Demonstrated experience in program coordination and management, including supervision of other staff and budget management; Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills; Demonstrated experience in interacting professionally with diverse individuals and organizations; Strong motivation and adaptability, including ability to work under pressure and with deadlines; Demonstrated ability to work as a team member; Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and electronic communications, including Windows-based word processing and database applications; Comfort with public speaking.
2) Preferred
Graduate degree; fundraising, communications, media or event planning experience; proficiency with personal computers and electronic communications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience in website and/or graphic design; willing to work in a fast paced setting.
3) Must be committed to supporting the community development needs of low-income AAPIs and other communities of color.
