Description:

Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a nationwide coalition of more than 450 mayors working to fight illegal gun trafficking, has an opening for a Policy Analyst. The Policy Analyst’s responsibilities would include conducting research and analysis on policies related to illegal gun trafficking, updating and maintaining the coalition’s website, participating in the coalition’s strategic planning process, communicating with other mayor’s offices, and managing its day-to-day operations. The policy analyst will also play a vital role in planning and coordinating coalition events.

The position requires strong skills as a researcher, writer, and analytical thinker. The analyst should have an interest in politics, law, and legislative advocacy. Experience in organizing, media campaigns, online communications, and law/criminal justice policy is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Conduct research and analysis on issues and policies related to illegal gun trafficking.
Update and maintain the coalition’s website, including managing work on possible future redesigns and/or expansions.
Participate in the coalition’s strategic planning process.
Help manage the coalition’s operations, including day-to-day communications with coalition members and developing initiatives with individual coalition mayors and the coalition staff.

Requirements:

Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects at any given time.
Good organization and attention to detail.
Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
Ability to work effectively with a team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, with a strong academic record.
Experience with advocacy efforts, political campaigns and/or the legislative process a plus.
Experience with websites creation/management, HTML a plus.
