Description:
The Harvard Office for Sustainability is hiring a Manager, Information and Reporting who will be responsible for coordinating internal and external communications about sustainability at Harvard and sustainability reporting protocols with the schools/units. This position will work with the OFS team and Schools/units, and communications officers and leaders across campus (including PIO's, Harvard News Office, OGCPA, etc.) and report to the Director of the Office for Sustainability.
The Manager, Information and Reporting is responsible for managing reporting protocols with the schools/units and internal and external communications about sustainability at Harvard. This position will work with the OFS team and Schools/units, and communications officers and leaders across campus (including PIO’s, Harvard News Office, OGCPA, etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive internal & external communications efforts around sustainability at Harvard working with communications leaders across the University.
Write sustainability communications pieces including the annual Harvard Sustainability Report, quarterly newsletters, school/unit updates and core website content.
Manage sustainability reporting protocols and processes for gathering data and information from schools/units
Liaise with Harvard PIO’s, HNO, Community Relations, etc.:
Provide guidance to Schools/units on integrating sustainability messaging into their regular communications plans.
Develop strong communications protocols for information sharing both to and from the Schools/units
Develop outreach materials for OFS information booths such as posters, tabling materials, etc.; represent OFS at relevant events.
Work with Harvard News Office to draft press releases and respond to press inquiries.
Research and compile responses for third party rankings/surveys and maintain key stats for OFS.
Strategic planning for OFS events and activities; including logistics & coordination with Schools, units and OFS team members.
Manage Web Developer, and oversee planning and prioritizing needs for OFS website.
Review and edit all website content from schools/units and OFS staff.
Support Director and Assistant Directors in development of presentations, talking points, maintenance of key statistics, communications about the OFS, regular updates to the OFS website (core related).
Work with Director and GHG Planning Coordinator to develop and execute GHG Reduction Goal Communications Plan and ensure regular information is shared with key stakeholders & information is aggregated from School/units and reporting occurs regularly; facilitating best practice sharing.
Staff the Marketing, Communications & Engagement Greenhouse Gas Working Group and any future sustainability communications related committees.
Work on other projects as the need arises.
Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Communications, Environmental Science, Behavioral Economics, Business or related field required, Masters Degree preferred.
5+ years of experience in communications, environmental outreach or marketing
Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability issues, green building, energy conservation, demand management, recycling, etc.
Excellent communication, writing, and editorial skills.
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage several projects at once.
High degree of flexibility, adaptability and general ability to respond to emerging opportunities and barriers in a constantly changing environment.
Able to effectively work with, and influence, senior administrative leaders, faculty and students to meet all OFS information and reporting goals and related progress on Harvard’s sustainability metrics and goals.
Must be creative, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial with a high level of energy and initiative;
Experience working with universities preferred;
Technology Skills Required:
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint is required. An ability to learn Harvard systems and web software quickly is a requirement. Proficiency in Photoshop or other design software.
