The Harvard Office for Sustainability is hiring a Manager, Occupant Behavior Change and Engagement who will be responsible for researching, developing and implementing programs for engaging students, staff, and faculty and promoting environmentally sustainable behaviors.

Position Summary:
The Manager, Occupant Behavior Change and Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing environmental sustainability focused programs, campaigns, and resources for influencing student, staff, and faculty to adopt sustainable behavior. This position will work with the OFS team and Schools/units, and communications officers and leaders across campus (including PIO’s, Harvard News Office, OGCPA, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and oversee campus-wide sustainability outreach and engagement programs including:
Develop incentive programs such as competitions, rewards and recognition programs, etc.
Develop toolkits on resource reduction strategies & related sustainability goals (for setting up a green team, environmental purchasing, running a green event, etc.).
Maintain and continue to develop the Green Office Certification Program, run green office workshops, etc.
Support Assistant Directors in developing and implementing training. programs/certifications for staff regarding administrative/office related areas.
Develop resources and materials for student, staff, and faculty orientations.
Plan and run campus-wide behavior change campaigns such as the Sustainability Pledge, Computer Power management, and other programs as determined.
Identify and report on metrics University-wide relating to occupant behavior and energy conservation; document savings/results form programs and projects implemented.
Work with schools/units to integrate central sustainability outreach programs into the school specific programs and activities, ensure each school has access to and participates in programs.
Support the work of School/Unit Sustainability Coordinators and Green Teams in the Schools/units.
Research stats/facts to support Coordinators; develop methodologies for tracking results and benefits of programs and projects.
Develop a central resource tracking tool to house various posters, prompts, resources, stats/facts, etc.
Staff the Marketing, Communications, and Engagement Working Group (run the Occupant Engagement sub-committee).
Ensure collaboration between the Building Efficiency & Demand Management & Marketing, Communications & Engagement Working Groups to develop and set up best practices sharing forums and various occupant training programs.
Work with Director, Assistant Directors and Faculty & Special Projects leader on occupant engagement, social marketing, and other relevant research that will influence our occupant behavior change programs, events and efforts.
Work on other projects as the need arises.

Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Education, Social Sciences, Communications, or Business or related field required, Masters Degree preferred.
5+ years of experience in running outreach/awareness programs, communications, social marketing, environmental experience preferred.
Proven knowledge of social marketing campaigns, tools, and approach; experience planning and running social marketing campaigns preferred.
Ability to conduct research on various environmental impacts, work well with numbers, and produce reliable statistics.
Ability to inspire and engage students, faculty and staff.
Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of environmental sustainability issues, green living, individual impacts, and GHG emissions reduction.
Able to effectively work with, and influence, senior administrative leaders, faculty and students to meet all OFS occupant engagement goals and related progress on Harvard’s sustainability metrics and goals.
Excellent communication, writing, presentation skills.
Strong organizational skills, ability to manage several projects at once.
High degree of flexibility, adaptability and general ability to respond to emerging opportunities and barriers in a constantly changing environment;
Must be creative, enthusiastic, and entrepreneurial with a high level of energy and initiative;
Knowledge of universities preferred;

Technology Skills Required:
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint, Publisher is required. An ability to learn Harvard systems and web software quickly is a requirement. Proficiency in Photoshop or other design software is preferred.
