Description:

BRC: Helping People to Reclaim Lives Lost.

BRC is a leading provider of housing and services to thousands of New York City’s neediest individuals. Offering a hand up, not a hand out, BRC asks one simple question: What can we do for you? BRC sees the potential in each individual it serves, and provides each the opportunity to find it. Whatever our clients may seek, BRC has it, 24/7/365: outreach to homeless people living in public spaces, drug treatment, mental health care, comprehensive medical services, vocational services, and supportive communities in which to live. More than 4,700 times in 2008, an individual in need said yes to BRC and walked through our doors; and over 2,600 times, a BRC client successfully graduated, and moved forward to reclaim their life. BRC succeeds by building trust with the people it serves; listening, and then acting, providing housing – both temporary and permanent – to over 1,100 individuals daily, and services through 25 programs located throughout New York City. Building trust takes time, and a compassionate, dedicated staff of over 450 employees and 300 volunteers that persevere 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, never giving up. And neither do our fellow New Yorkers, who called the BRC Homeless Helpline nearly 2,000 times last year.

POSITION AVAILABLE

POSITION: Case Manager

HOURS:
Full-time position 37.5 hours per week
Sunday - Wednesday 11:00am-7:30pm
Thursday, 9:00am-5:30pm

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Finding an affordable place to live is a challenge for any New Yorker, no less so for those BRC serves. But the length of the journey neither deters nor slows our clients. Last year nearly 500 men and women who were once homeless moved home. That’s more than once every day.

To assist them in their journey home, BRC offers over 400 units of permanent housing, where residents have signed leases and tenancy rights. About half these units are in 4 single room occupancy (SRO) housing programs BRC has built, 35 units of which are in Los Vecinos SRO. In these buildings BRC is the landlord, but a benevolent one. While rent collections are consistently at or above 95%, that is not the objective. On site staff provide support to tenants as they make the transition to independent living, and help to build a community of support among peers. Tenants establish linkages to services in the neighborhood with the goal of preventing the return of the issues that led to their once becoming homeless.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage caseload, individual counseling, provision of concrete services, chart documentation, facilitate groups, assist in intake and assessments. Assist with referrals. And related duties as assigned.

PROGRAM/UNIT:
Los Vecinos SRO
91 Pitt Street
New York, NY 10002

BENEFITS:

Full time employees receive a generous benefits package: Employees can choose from 3 different health/dental plans. In addition, employees receive a minimum of 3 weeks paid vacation, 11 paid holidays, and additional paid sick and personal time. To encourage our employees to save for retirement, we offer a 403(b) pension plan with a matching benefit paid by BRC. We also offer tuition assistance and many training opportunities for career development. Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are available so employees can set aside pre-tax dollars for healthcare, transit and childcare.
