Title: Part Time Response Line Advocate
Location: Domestic Violence Intake Center
Reports to: OCAP Coordinator

SAFE’s mission is to empower survivors of intimate partner violence in the District of Columbia by supporting them as they navigate the civil and criminal justice systems, and to advocate for systemic reforms that ensure survivor safety and self-determination. SAFE provides valuable information and services to survivors in order to help them break the cycle of violence, reduce the likelihood of future abuse, and decrease the risk of homicide. SAFE also works collaboratively with police, prosecutors, other non-profit organizations, and the DC Superior Court to ensure a coordinated response to domestic violence.

The OCAP Response Line provides domestic violence victims with after hours access to advocates that can assist with safe housing, referrals and resources, safety planning and information concerning protection orders.

Purpose: The Response Line Advocate provides primary coverage of the Response Line for one weekend shift per week (6am-6pm)

-Be available to serve as a call taker for one 12 hour shift a weekend (6am-6pm)

-Maintain records regarding calls for service through the Response Line.

-Provide supervision for the Response Line volunteers.

-Provide resources and follow established referral mechanisms and screening.

-Provide crisis intervention

-Receive training concerning the program protocol and procedures.

Additional Qualifications:

Requirements: B.A. or the equivalent, OR 1-2 years of experience with crisis intervention work.
Must be English/Spanish bilingual.
Experience with domestic violence issues and DC resources a plus.
Non-traditional work hours: evenings and weekends.
