Description:

Success Charter Network, Inc., a charter school management organization (CMO) that manages the highly successful and academically rigorous network of charter schools known as the Success Academies, is actively seeking an External Affairs Associate to support parent-related activities in its fast-paced, quickly growing External Affairs division. Success Charter Network (SCN) opened its first school, Harlem Success Academy, in August 2006. Capitalizing on the awesome gains it made with students in its first school, SCN expanded by adding 3 more schools to its network in Summer 2008, all modeled after its flagship. Success Charter Network will continue the rapid launch of 3 to 4 schools each year until it is actively managing 30 to 40 excellent, public elementary schools all over low-income New York City neighborhoods. Our mission is to prevent the achievement gap between low-income children and their more affluent counterparts by bringing high-quality schools to high-need neighborhoods.

Tasks will include:

* Parent organizing for large-scale events and identifying parents for leadership roles.
* Acting as the Parent Council liaison for multiple school sites.
* Coordinating highly-public events - specifically a 2000-person Harlem Education Fair, a large-scale admissions lottery, community outreach events, information sessions, parent breakfasts, graduation ceremonies, and more.
* Writing grant applications for parent involvement activities.
* Tracking parent outreach activities for grant reports.
* Conducting parent outreach for student recruitment.
* Supporting the Director of External Affairs in other duties as needed.

Qualified candidates will have professional poise, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and incredible attention to detail. Successful candidates must be goal-oriented and strategic and be comfortable with long hours and a heavy workload. A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a demanding role is required. Experience working with parents is preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly motivated team committed to education reform, educational choice, and the building of exemplary schools. A bachelor’s degree is required.
