COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health invites applications for the position of Communications Associate.
Established in 1996, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to elevate the priority of children’s health and increase the quality and accessibility of children’s health care through leadership and direct investment. The Foundation fundraises for research, training, and patient care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and for pediatric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The Foundation also serves as a source of public information about the state of children’s health and pursues changes in the system of pediatric health care.
Position Summary
The Communications Associate will fulfill important writing and research functions in support of Development Communications. This individual will be responsible for crafting custom gift acknowledgement letters to major donors. The Communications Associate also will develop written content to help achieve specific objectives, including printed collateral, publications, and online initiatives. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support Development Communications. This individual is expected to communicate clearly and courteously and to develop and maintain positive relationships with medical staff, Hospital leadership, donors, and Foundation colleagues.
Essential Duties
Gift Acknowledgement:
• Compose personalized gift acknowledgement letters to high-end donors; research donor background and review drafts with major gift staff; work with gift processing staff to ensure prompt and accurate generation of letters.
• Each quarter, write new acknowledgement letter templates for gifts under $5,000; create special acknowledgement letters for specific year end solicitations of Hospital and Foundation board members and staff.
Marketing:
• Perform writing and proofreading duties; research and compile story ideas and content for publications.
• Assist in the planning and execution of marketing communication strategy; work to ensure consistent voice in Development collateral and publications.
Additional Qualifications:
• A college degree and 1-3 years of work experience.
• Exceptional writing and proofreading skills; writing and editing experience preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and follow up; ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize workload; ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Ability to successfully interact with and obtain information from a wide range of stakeholders including development staff, medical staff, donors, and patient families.
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software; ability to learn other programs, including donor database and digital asset library; comfort working with numbers; ability to conduct online research.
• A good sense of humor and a genuine interest in children and their health.
