Description of Services
Wellspring Advisors seeks one or more consultant(s) to carry out a series of short-term research projects. The consultant(s) will analyze the work of Senegalese civil society in one or more of the following sectors:
1. Human rights, including disability;
2. Women’s rights, including the prevention of violence against women, women’s land and property rights, and reproductive health and rights;
3. Children’s rights and education; and
4. Pro-poor economic development, including smallholder agriculture, small and medium enterprise development, and governance.
For each of these areas, the consultant(s) will review the contribution of Senegalese civil society and assess the gaps, opportunities, and challenges for future engagement. Research will be carried out through a review of key documents and extensive interviews with key stakeholders (including NGOs, donors, academics, and government agencies) in the field. The consultant(s) will produce final reports and presentations for Wellspring Advisors that provide an overview of the state of the field and generate a series of concrete grantmaking and/or capacity-building recommendations.
The time commitment associated with this consultancy will depend on the breadth of the project as outlined by Wellspring’s international program team.
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications
• 5+ years professional experience
working in the fields of international
development and/or human rights in
Senegal;
• Expertise in the areas of human
rights, economic development,
women’s rights, reproductive health,
and/or children’s rights, ability to work
across a range of programmatic issue
areas highly desired;
• University degree required;
graduate degree preferred;
• Fluency in English and French
and excellent oral and written
communications skills required,
knowledge of local languages a plus;
• Prior experience with grantmaking
or grants management a plus;
• Strategic planning and other
organizational development skills a
plus;
• Excellent analytic abilities and
impartiality;
• Initiative, resourcefulness, and
flexibility—ability to work independently
with minimal supervision;
• Demonstrated commitment to
Wellspring’s grantmaking priorities;
• Ability to handle confidential client
information with complete discretion;
and
• Ability to work and travel within
Senegal.
Wellspring Advisors will not sponsor
any candidates to relocate to Senegal
and/or obtain any necessary legal
documentation in Senegal, such as
visas or work permits. Similarly,
Wellspring will not sponsor
candidates to move to or work in the
United States.
