GREEN Community Schools Model Resource Coordinator
The GREEN Community Schools’ mission is to create long-term holistic partnerships between the school, local community residents, stakeholders, resources and families to ensure that the community is environmentally aware and able to successfully practice and promote sustainability in their lives, communities and globally.
Position Summary
The GREEN Community Schools Model Resource Coordinator will be a key leader in developing an effective partnership between a Chicago area public high school and the surrounding community. To assist administration, faculty, staff, students, parents and community members in creating a roadmap for a “soup-to-nuts” greening of their school and then overseeing the implementation of each component while recruiting, maintaining and strengthening meaningful relationships with and within the community. This will include on-site/field work coordination of outreach; networking; discovering local community resources to further enhance and deepen each component; media events; as well as recruiting and coordinating the activities of individuals and organizations willing to offer quality programs and services at the school to meet the needs of this effort. The coordinator will be a direct employee of the MGR Foundation and is also accountable to the Oversight Committee.
Core Responsibilities
* Develop, implement and manage all components of greening the entire school community including coordinating organizational meetings and overseeing all follow-up; keeping all players up-to-date with decisions and upcoming activities and finding and utilizing community resources to the best of your ability
* Involving students in each step of the process in ways that will help make the decisions and their outcomes meaningful to their daily lives; involving students in ways that give them a sense of ownership and connectedness
* Develop a program evaluation, student evaluation and needs assessment
* Work to enhance the parent/adult connection and leadership development
* Incorporate relevant health education in relation to environmental issues both in the immediate and global scale
* Encourage all players to become active members of their community – help discover current service opportunities and foster the development of new service opportunities
* Collaborate and create community and school partnerships to develop high quality programs that support the school’s mission
* Organize and direct the work of an oversight committee of stakeholders to assess the needs of the program as it unfolds
* Explore new funding possibilities and assist with or lead the development of funding proposals to insure program sustainability
* Increase parental involvement and create a parent/community advisory board
* Engage a diverse range of community stakeholders through advisory teams to assess the needs of the school and make on campus decisions insuring the continuation of the green components established; foster growth of these efforts as technologies evolve and improve for years to come
* Ensure timely communication with school leadership and nurture relationships with school personnel; submit weekly and monthly reports as requested
* Collaborate with team of peers in developing organizational expertise in community school partnerships
* Coordinate and monitor programs and activities
* Maintain accurate accounting records, attendance data and statistics to support programmatic and reporting compliance with contracts
* Oversee payroll for the program; purchase/order materials and supplies as needed
* Negotiate agreements with individuals and organizations in conjunction with MGR Foundation staff that provide services
* May be responsible for other school- sponsored programming as determined by the oversight committee
* Work with teachers to support classroom learning and professional development activities
* Assist in developing environmental and social activism curriculum to enhance and impact day-to-day classroom learning
Qualifications
Minimum BA; an understanding and concern for the ramifications of human impact on local and global environment; supervisory experience helpful; familiarity with urban learning environments; highly effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills; highly motivated visionary thinker with ability to implement and manage details; grant writing experience preferred; successfully pass a DCFS background check; available to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and some weekends; must be committed to the continuous improvement of service quality and the realization of the organization’s mission; ability to keep accurate records and prepare timely and detailed reports; able to relate to young people in a caring and supportive way; Equal Opportunity Employer.
Compensation
$40,000 + health benefits per year ($45,000 total compensation).
