Description:

Immigration Equality is a national not-for-profit organization fighting for equal immigration rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and HIV-positive people. Momentum is building in Congress for comprehensive immigration reform, and we are rolling out a focused advocacy campaign to galvanize LGBT support for comprehensive immigration reform and for inclusion of LGBT binational families in comprehensive immigration reform legislation. Immigration Equality has created a 501(c)4, the Immigration Equality Action Fund, and this new staff position will work for both entities.

The Online Grassroots Organizer will have two key responsibilities: first, to create and maintain the Action Fund’s web-based advocacy tools, and second, to manage Immigration Equality’s Spokesfamilies Bureau, and work with local advocates to maximize grassroots mobilization and impact in target Congressional districts.

Responsibilities:
I. Online Advocacy
• Develop the Action Fund’s web presence and build online advocacy tools as well as a website for the new “LGBT for CIR” campaign.
o Create a comprehensive online strategy to maximize grassroots capacity, campaign growth, and audience responsiveness.
o Develop on-line advocacy tools and grassroots organizing resources
o Develop mechanisms for tracking, reporting and sharing online results and analysis of results to relevant staff and board members.

II. Spokesfamilies Bureau and Grassroots Mobilization in Targeted Congressional Districts
• Use new and traditional media to communicate with longtime spokesfamilies for LGBT immigration rights, recruit new couples in target legislative districts, and manage the spokesfamilies database.
• Respond to inquiries from binational couples seeking opportunities to get involved.
• Drive local outreach in high-value Congressional districts. Reach out to local LGBT and immigrant rights organizations in target districts to identify potential spokesfamilies and to collaborate with local organizations in planning in-district meetings with legislators.

Qualifications:
• Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
• Significant experience in political or advocacy campaigns, particularly web-based efforts.
• Experience using and administering Internet technologies such as Convio, Capwiz, and DIA.
• A human touch in working with spokesfamilies, and a collaborative spirit in working with diverse stakeholders around the country.
• Demonstrated ability to drive projects independently and to deliver results on time and on budget.

Salary & Benefits: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, and employee retirement plan.

Immigration Equality is an affirmative action employer: people of color and immigrants are strongly encouraged to apply.
