Description:
Immigration Equality ~ Policy Associate
Position Location: Washington, DC
Immigration Equality is a national not-for-profit organization fighting for equal immigration rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and HIV-positive people. Momentum is building in Congress, with the introduction of two bills providing equal immigration rights for gay and lesbian binational families and a recent Senate hearing on the issue. Immigration Equality is rolling out a focused, 1-2 year advocacy campaign to win federal immigration rights for LGBT families.
Immigration Equality seeks a dynamic, motivated individual with outstanding lobbying and communications skills to build support for equal immigration rights on Capitol Hill and with key stakeholders. The Policy Associate will play a major role in campaigning for passage of pro-LGBT immigration legislation.
The Policy Associate will work with the Policy Director to build support for the Uniting American Families Act (S. 424 / H.R. 1024) and the Reuniting Families Act (H.R. 2079), which will allow gays and lesbians to sponsor their foreign-born permanent partners for immigration. The Policy Associate will also advocate for passage of comprehensive immigration reform and inclusion of LGBT families in comprehensive immigration reform.
Job Responsibilities:
Meet and advocate with members of Congress and their staff to build support for equal LGBT immigration rights.
Coordinate with media and policy staff to build support for equal LGBT immigration rights in key Congressional Districts.
Write fact sheets, analyses and other materials critical to building support for the campaign.
Play a major role in planning and executing Immigration Equality's Lobby Day.
Assist with major Capitol Hill events including briefings.
Attend and lead meetings with key partner organizations to build support for the campaign.
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications: Priority will be given to candidates with prior federal lobbying experience. State lobbying experience and policy experience on immigration and/or LGBT rights a major plus.
Salary & Benefits: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, and employee retirement plan.
Immigration Equality is an affirmative action employer: people of color and immigrants are strongly encouraged to apply.
