Description:
The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) is seeking a full-time Parent-Child Specialist. The Parent-Child Specialist will support IHR’s mission to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for women, youth, and families who are affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, mental health problems, and violence/trauma by providing training and psycho-educational programs for substance use treatment and human services program staff and clients throughout Massachusetts.
Major Responsibilities:
• Provide on-site training and psycho-educational parenting skills groups in substance use disorder treatment and human services programs, as well as correctional and other community-based settings.
• Co-facilitate parenting groups with program staff
• Work closely with program staff and clients, implementing psycho-social parenting curricula
• Work one-on-one with women clients on individual parent-child issues
• Provide training & technical assistance on child-development and parent-child issues for program staff
• Provide training to community-based programs on issues related to recognizing substance use disorders and impacts on the family
• Actively participate in team addressing parent-child issues throughout Massachusetts substance use disorder treatment system
• Work with Department of Public Health and other state agencies on the development of and support for family services in substance abuse treatment programs
• In-state travel required
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications:
• Advanced decree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field preferred
• Experience in group work and in providing services to parents and children
• Knowledge about the dynamics of parent-child relationships, child development, family disruptions, children’s’ mental health issues and trauma
• Knowledge of substance use and treatment
• Excellent communication skills including presentation and writing skills
• Experience working with diverse ethnic and cultural communities
• Must hold valid MA drivers’ license and have regular access to a reliable vehicle
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) encouraged to apply
