Description:
Middle East Window is an online magazine devoted to the exploration of all aspects of Middle Eastern life, people, politics, religions, art and culture.
Our Mission
The goals of Middle East Window are to:
Provide an expansive educational online resource on the peoples, politics and communities of the Middle East.
Share human stories and humanizing images from the Middle East often ignored by the mainstream media.
Explore issues affecting the indigenous Christian communities of the region and the relationship between the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity and Islam).
Give a voice to those working for peace, justice and human rights throughout the Middle East and the Western World.
Our History
Founded in 2003 by Middle East Fellowship, an American nonprofit, Middle East Window hopes to provide a clearer and deeper understanding of the Middle East for English-speaking audiences. To do this, our staff must provide not only facts and figures, but also human voices from the region.
That is why we have collected personal stories from people traveling to (or living in) the region. It is also why we have tried to focus on issues and stories that are often not covered in the mainstream media. For example, we have closely monitored the voices and perspectives of Palestinian nonviolent activists and both Jewish and Israeli peacemakers.
We believe that there are many heroic men and women throughout the Middle East doing powerful things on behalf of their own communities. Many of their stories have not yet been told. It is critical that we do everything within our power to lend a voice to these efforts.
As a faith-based initiative, we also feel it's important to pay attention to the role of spirituality in the struggle for social justice. Faith plays an extremely important role within the everyday lives of most people living in the Middle East. It is particularly important to pay attention to the relationship between the Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) and their shared life together in this region and throughout the rest of the world.
