Based in Oakland, California, Exhale is the nation’s first and only organization designed specifically to promote post-abortion health and well-being. Exhale was created by and for women who have abortions in direct response to the harmful effects of abortion stigma on women’s health and the lack of non-judgmental after-abortion services.

The mission of Exhale is to create a social climate where each person's unique experience with abortion is respected, supported and free from stigma. We provide services, training and education to empower individuals, families and communities to achieve post-abortion health and well-being.

Exhale operates a free, multi-lingual, national after-abortion talkline, staffed entirely by trained volunteers. In addition, Exhale provides professional training for reproductive health providers that focus on non-judgmental communication, cultural competency, language access and respect for the values and beliefs of women who have abortions. Through our publications and media strategy, Exhale is actively working to transform the public dialogue about abortion.
