About Us & History
Light for Children – Ghana is a non-governmental, child centered, development organization, without religious or political affiliation. It seeks the welfare of the needy and disadvantage children in society, and also focuses on community and humanitarian services.
The organization, which was set up in the year of 2005, was as a result of the devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on families, community and on innocent children in Ghana and the NGO's focus is on children in Ashanti region. The effect of the epidemic on these helpless orphans and vulnerable children, especially HIV-positive ones, is tremendous and far-reaching. These children are often left in the care of their grandmothers who are sometimes too old and lack the financial and material resources to take care of them.
Those who are HIV positive have a lot of difficulty in getting the anti-retroviral therapy, their main source of survival and existence. The organization, witch is working closely with the HIV/AIDS clinic in the region, has set itself the task of identifying these children, assessing their needs and assisting them.
