Mission:
MAB Community Services provides support and training to help individuals with disabilities live full lives in the community. Founded as the Massachusetts Association for the Blind in 1903, MAB now serves adolescents with brain injuries, adults and young adults with developmental disabilities, and adults and elders who are blind or visually impaired.
The Vision Community Services department helps elders with vision loss continue daily activities through home-based case management and rehabilitation services. MAB's low vision support groups and 1:1 volunteers help individuals of all ages cope with vision loss and manage daily tasks. The Recording Studio for the Blind provides recorded information and texts. Our offices are located in Holyoke, Watertown, and Worcester.
MAB's Brain Injury program operates an intensive therapeutic day and residential program, The Ivy Street School, as well as offering community based residential supports for adolescents and young adults with brain injuries.
The Developmental Disability department operates 12 community group homes and provides orientation and mobility training and employment supports to individuals with developmental disabilities in Greater Boston.
MAB's Vocational Education program is an interdepartmental program offering pre-vocational training, career counsling and exploration, and job placement to individuals with disabilities.
