Mission:
It is the mission of the Humanitarian Service Project to alleviate the pain and suffering poverty brings to children and the elderly living in DuPage and Kane Counties, IL. This is done through our four projects: Christmas Offering, Senior Citizen Project, Children's Birthday Project, and Feed the Kids.
We currently have 115 seniors in our Senior Citizen Project who receive 80 to 90 lbs of nourishing food delivered to their homes each month. In each delivery they receive: seven frozen meats, a selection of five fresh fruits, a selection of six fresh vegetables, five bags of non-perishable food, & a bag of personal care items and paper products. They also receive secret pal gifts each month along with items from their wish lists.
Our 1,100 children in our Children's Birthday Project receive a birthday package filled with 4 new books, five new toys, stuffed animals, party supplies, school supplies, coloring books, crayons, and filler gifts including: bubble solution, playing cards, Matchbox cars, etc. These packages are either picked up at our center by the family or shipped via UPS to their homes. Most of these children also receive Christmas gifts from their wish lists.
Through our Christmas Offering we serve 90-95 families with 4 weeks of groceries and Christmas gifts for their children. In 2004, each family received an average of 400 pounds of food, including: fresh produce, a selection frozen meats, and a large quantity of non-perishable food. In addition, each child received an average of five Christmas gifts. For Christmas 2004, we distributed gifts to over 1,200 children between our Christmas Offering and Children's Birthday Project.
Our Feed the Kids provides 24 families with a grocery delivery during the months of June, July & August. These families receive fresh produce, frozen meats, and non-perishable food.
