Mission:
The Women's Medical Fund provides assistance,
mostly financial, to low-income women and girls
who want to terminate a pregnancy but cannot
afford the cost of a safe, legal abortion. We believe
that it is the responsibility of government to fund
abortions, but that we must act now to support
women who want abortions and cannot afford
them. WMF was founded in 1985 after
Pennsylvania cut off Medicaid funding for abortions.
In the last 19 years, the Fund has raised almost
a million dollars for abortions and has provided
emergency assistance to thousands of Philadelphia
area women and girls who would have otherwise
have been denied their right to choose.
