Mission:

AmeriCorps Cape Cod is a residential national service program dedicated to addressing the environmental and community needs of Cape Cod.

26 full time AmeriCorps Cape Cod members provide service in four general areas: environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, education, and community outreach and engagement

Environmental Service:

AmeriCorps Cape Cod is dedicated to addressing the environmental needs of the Cape's fragile, finite and uniquely valuable natural resources through environmental service in three focus areas: land conservation, water conservation and environmental education. 26 Members serve with local federal, state, county, town and non profit entities including: Cape Cod National Seashore, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research reserve, MA Coastal Zone Management, County Cooperative Extension; town conservation commissions, natural resource and shellfish departments, local land trusts, research institutions and environmental organizations and centers.

Disaster Preparedness and Response:

Members are engaged in service activities aimed at preparing individuals and communities for natural and human-made disaster. Projects include flood mitigation, shelter refurbishment, public education campaigns, and erosion control efforts.
Member serve with the local chapter of the American Red Cross, Emergency Planning groups, and local fire and health departments.

Community Education:

AmeriCorps Cape cod members are involved in numerous environmental education projects including interprative trail design, recycling education, and marine ecology education. Corps members encourage disaster preparedness through hurricane education and flood prevention programs.

The ACC program works to foster an ethic of service on Cape Cod through developing community service projects and recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
