Description:
SAFE created the On-Call Advocacy Project (OCAP) to provide on-call advocates for domestic violence victims who contact the Metropolitan Police Department outside of DC Superior Court’s normal hours of business. OCAP advocates can answer questions from officers about victim resources, protection orders, and other legal options for domestic
violence crime victims. The advocates are available to meet with a victim at a hospital, courthouse or police station, or speak with them on the phone. An OCAP advocate can provide:
· safety planning;
· legal information;
· access to Crime Victim’s Compensation applications;
· a temporary stay in a hotel;
· access to the temporary protection order process; and
· a direct link to a SAFE Advocate who will work with them throughout the court process and provide case management.
OCAP advocates collaborate closely with police officers and the community to build awareness about OCAP services.
