Description:
For some students, particularly those who already have experience with campus organizing, our manual is enough, and we hear news of successful events and changes won. Many students are looking for more specific guidance, however, and SAFER can help. Our free mentoring service provides students with one-on-one support from our Organizing Trainers, themselves experienced campus activists. Organizing Trainers help students assess their communities' readiness to adopt prevention-focused sexual assault policies. With help from Organizing Trainers, students strategize about how to gain allies and a critical mass of supporters, develop a complete and campus-specific list of demands for a revised sexual assault policy, and brainstorm solutions to organizing roadblocks as they occur.
This service allows students to capitalize on the knowledge provided by our trainers while tailoring our support to their busy schedules and the specificities of their campus situation. Mentoring sessions may be especially helpful in difficult situations such as a large-scale media attack by an opposition group, a change in college leadership, or conflict between activists. Mentoring sessions are free of charge and there is no obligation to take any advice we give.
To contact SAFER for more information about mentoring, call us at 347-293-0953 or email us at organizers@safercampus.org. This program is available to students in any part of the US.
