Description:

My name is Cathy Mendonca and I volunteer as an English tutor and family mentor with the International Rescue Committee in San Diego. I had the honor of meeting a courageous yet serene mother of four. Overcoming formidable disaster with only faith blessing her with the endurance to survive, she relocated to the United States for a chance at a better life for both her and her family. As her tutor, I am blessed having the opportunity help her in any way I possibly can. I view her, as a survivor, and the journey, which she will travel, beginning her new life here in the United States, will be behind her every step of the way. I came across ItoI through a friend who taught English abroad. After reviewing the different programs ItoI has to offer, I have decided to embark on my own journey to Uganda. My program of choice: Teach Inn Uganda.

Preferences and conditions:

I-to-I is a founding member of the Year Out Group, associate of the Federation of International Youth Travel Organizations, accredited by the Government's Open and Distance Learning Quality Council for its training courses and was recently awarded 'Small Business of the Year' by the Variety Club children's charity in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The organization arranges overseas work placements for around 3,000 volunteers of all ages and nationalities every year who help disadvantaged communities and endangered eco-systems throughout the world. Without the generous support of sponsors as many as two-thirds of volunteers would not be able to take up their positions.

The money I am fundraising for will cover expenses including training and placement fees, flights, vaccinations and also food and accommodation. Without covering them, I may not be able to join the project. I very much hope you will be able support and/or help promote me in this quest.
I am asking that all contributions and correspondences be sent by June 1, 2009 to the following address:

My deepest thanks for any effort on your behalf to make my dream to teach in Uganda possible
Sincerely
Cathy Mendonca
