Description:
We are looking for enthusiastic women volunteers to work as spoken English teachers in our residential school for girls aged 10-14. This school has been specially set up by ODAM NGO, with the assistance of the Government, to provide an education for children previously employed as child labourers. These under privileged rural children have been rescued from working in industries such as match box factories and brick works, where they had been denied access to basic education. The aim of our school is to provide the students with a high standard of education so that they are able to rejoin mainstream education. As a spoken English teacher you will be playing a crucial role in the educational development of these girls. We believe that education is not only a basic right but it is also critical to gaining equality for women. We are keen to receive any native English speaking women volunteers. No experience is required, just lots of enthusiasm!
We ask that all volunteers contribute 150 Euros per month of service to cover the costs of Accommodation, Food, etc;
Barathi Education Centre
Virudunagar district gets 1st rank in 10th and 12th std Govt. Exam Results for the past 20 years in our Tamilnadu state. In one face it indicates best remarks for our district. So our High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools administration restrict the promotion strategy in 9th and 11th standards.
This strategy affects our KGBV Residential main streamed girls’ students. This year only 7 girls passed in 9th std out of 15 girls in Narikudi Govt. Higher Secondary School. They may return to their earlier stage like workers in Brick Chambers, Sheep rearing etc; to avoid this situation ODAM starts Barathi Education Centre (BES) in Narikudi on 2nd June 08.
The 9th std failed students joined in 10th std class in our BES and they will write the SSLC exam with regular students.
